In accordance with the Tamil Nadu Townand Country Planning Act 1971, the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) was established as an ad hoc organisation in 1972 and became a statutory authority in 1974. It was created in accordance with subsection 1 of Section 9-A (2) of the Act.
A builder, or anybody else for that matter, who decides to build a structure must have the Municipal Development Authority’s blessing on the planned plan. The layout is therefore considered to be legally binding after receiving CMDA Building Plan Approval, and any significant deviation could result in a legal action and subsequent destruction.
